It is just very uncomfortable, and some may have altered body image because it is unattractive to glance at. If your problem is how to get rid of puffy eyes, there are several tips that I can give you. These tips can be done safely at home.

• Use a couple of pillows to elevate your head. It will help you to keep fluid from pooling under the eyes, and it also promotes better circulation.
• Sleep on your back. This will hinder fluid to go and accumulate directly to your eyes.
• Cold compress is very efficient too. Get an ice bag, or simply wrap an ice in a washcloth and place it into your eyes. Do it until the swelling is gone.
• You can even use cucumber or potato eye compress. Place slices of cucumber or potato on closed eyes for 15-30 minutes. It may reduce or eliminate puffiness.
• Eye exercises will be a big help too. Move both eyes in a circular motion, clockwise and counterclockwise alternatively. Then, move the eyes in all directions.
• Eye Creams can also be applied before sleeping at night. Gently pat the area around the eyes when applying the cream so the excess fluids will drain away.
• Put some ice cubes into a large bowl of tap water and splash it into your face continually for 2-5 minutes. It will reduce swelling and puffiness.
• Do not use mascara or any other eye product that you have been using for a few months. It may have some bacteria, hence; it will cause your eyelids to swell. Do not share your eye makeup as well.

Routines of how to get rid of puffy eyes should be implemented. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you are getting enough sleep every night. Reduce consumption of alcohol and sodium. Sodium usually causes fluid retention, thus, giving you puffy eyes. Don’t forget to remove your contact lenses before you go to sleep, not only to get rid of puffy eyes, but also to avoid further problems. Remember, contact lenses may irritate your eyes.

If the symptoms are already severe, you should consult a doctor immediately. If the puffiness is 2-3 times than the normal size, there must be some different underlying cause. Moreover, if the puffiness is already causing your inability to close your eyelids, it may be an indicator of thyroid problems and requiring more medical attention.
