There are many treatments for acne scars depending on the severity of the problem. When you ask a dermatologist how to get rid of acne scars you will be given the following options depending on the severity of your case and your price range. Laser treatment is one of the best options for acne scars however it is also the most expensive option. The laser treatment involves removing the top layers of the skin making the scar an open wound that has to heal. Non ablative lasers are safer and do not remove layers of skin. A pulse dyed laser will take the redness out of a acne scar. Often the redness in acne is part of the problem.

Fractional laser resurfacing is a method that creates vertical holes in the acne tissue. There are usually two or three treatments before improvement is seen. It is often used with fillers, excision and cross techniques. Chemical peels are another method for treating acne. The chemical peel is applied to the skin and left on for a certain amount of time. It dissolves tissue cells helping new tissue to grow. Some topical treatment used are Retin-A and alpha hydroxy. Before trying them discuss the treatment with your doctor.

Punch techniques are used for deep acne scarring. The tissue is removed with a instrument and often the tissue is replaced. This is minor surgery so anesthesia is given to the patient. Sometime after the scar tissue is removed the wound is stitched up. Other times a skin graft is applied over the wound after the scar tissue is removed. Another treatment is dermal fillers that try to bring the skin back to a normal level. Often dermal fillers are given as injections. These fillers are often collagen and fat a temporary treatment that needs to be repeated. So you often have to get several injections.

Dermabrasion involves removing the skin with a rotating wire brush. It removes the top layer of skin. It works well on surface scars and helps deeper level scars too. Microdermabrasion blows crystals onto the skin’s surface using a device. They polish the skin’s surface removing dead skin and impurities. A tube attached sucks up the crystals and dead skin. Acne creams can be used to treat some scars on the skin. They often work like a chemical peel by removing dead skin. Some creams are abrasive and contain a natural acid. Treatments can be done at home. These are more ways of how to get rid of acne scars.

When deciding on a treatment you should consult a dermatologist. They will go over all the treatments and find the one best suited treatment that fits your case. It is not recommended that you attempt to learn how to get rid of acne scars on your own to prevent any chance of injury.

Acne scars cant be managed by just topicals alone. you also need some high amounts of vitamin-C to manage the generation of collagen.

If your acne scars don’t fade away on their own, it may be time to consider booking an appointment with your dermatologist. Within one to three sessions, laser skin resurfacing using fractionated laser technology can even out the skin surface and increase new collagen formation to help fill in acne scars.
